Carbon Resistors:
Your Marantz has many carbon resistors within its circuits. They are typically 10% tolerance solid carbon resistors. This was fine in the 70's production market but we have better resistors today and they are readily available and inexpensive. The deal is that over the years the carbon resistors in your Marantz have changed value. Some probably don't even measure anywhere within their 10% tolerance. I often find cracked or broken resistors as I do my restorations. Sometimes they just turn to dust when you touch them. Replacing with new 5% (or better) tolerance resistors will ensure many more years of trouble-free operation. Also, carbon resistors tend to be noisy. In low power signal circuits metal film resistor replacements can improve the sound as well as provide security.
